The “home course advantage” proved to work in Pella High’s favor, as both the Little and Lady Dutch finished in first place at the state qualifying cross country meet at Central College last night. The boys finished in first with 40 points total, and the Little Dutch had four runners earn All-District honors, including Evan Jones (second place), Michael Schemm (8th), Wade Pingel (9th), and Sophomore Ben Warner (10th). The Knoxville boys’ team finished in third place, which also qualifies them for the state meet. Their team was led by Wick Cunningham, who actually finished first overall with a time of 16:44. The girls finished with 52 points, ten more than second place Grinnell, who had beaten the Lady Dutch by ten points in last week’s Little Hawkeye Conference meet. Three Pella girls earned All-District honors: Gabi Meirick, who finished first overall, Victoria Kleven (5th), and Ashley Kirkland (9th). The Little and Lady Dutch cross country teams will be headed to the State Meet in Fort Dodge to race a week from this Saturday on the 27th for the right to become State Champions.
