Central College’s furious fourth quarter rally fell short Saturday afternoon as the Dutch dropped a 21-18 Iowa Conference football contest against Simpson. The Storm led 7-0 at halftime, and took a 14-0 advantage on the first drive of the third quarter before Central finally found the end zone on a two yard run by quarterback Brendon Boerm. However, less than a minute later, Simpson was back on the board with what proved to be the game winning score, which gave Simpson a 21-7 lead before the Dutch started their comeback effort. Kevin Sheldon nailed a 30 yard field goal early in the fourth, Aaron Eisler hit Ben Lechtenberg on an 18-yard touchdown pass with four minutes to go, and Boerm tossed the two-point conversion to Josh Osborn to cut the deficit to 21-18. Central never got the ball back, however, as Simpson converted on two third-downs on the final drive to run out the clock. The loss drops Central to 2-3 on the year, and they’re 1-1 in league play. A trip to Storm Lake looms Saturday, as Central will take on Buena Vista in another Iowa Conference contest.
