The Pella Christian Volleyball squad used some early momentum from senior night, but eventually fell in five tough games to the Grinnell Tigers, 25 – 18, 10 – 25, 21 – 25, 25 – 11, and 9 – 15. After a convincing game one victory, the Eagles fell behind early 7 – 1, before rallying to within a point 8 – 7, but that’s the closest Pella Christian would get to the Tigers in game two. The Eagles would tie the match up at two games apiece after a blowout win in game 4, but the Tigers proved to be too much in the fifth and deciding game. Eagles head coach Cindy Nikkel knew it was going to be a tough game offensively. “The thing that I liked about this match is that we had to work hard,” Nikkel told KNIA/KRLS Sports. “I told them to get their blue collars on and it was time to work. They were pushed, and we do that in practice, but they’ve never seen that level of defense in a match.” The loss drops Pella Christian to 13 – 15 on the year. They have one final set of games to go through, and that’s at the Knoxville tournament this Saturday, before their first round regional match at North Mahaska this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m.
