Facing as run-centric a team as the Pella Christian Eagles’ football squad did in their round one matchup against St. Albert Council Bluffs, you would probably be inclined to focus your defense on stopping the ground game. That’s easier said than done, says Eagles head football coach, Rich Kacmarynski, especially when you have a signal caller that is also a threat to rush the ball.
“Quarterback run is obviously a tough thing to stop, all the way from the NFL to Pee Wee,” Kacmarynski said. “If you have a quarterback that can run, like you see with [Robert Griffin III], Tim Tebow, Michael Vick, and things of that nature, it’s obviously something tough to defend. They did a nice job of getting our linebackers blocked and got some nice runs there.”
The Falcons’ quarterback, Tucker Culjat, ran for three scores in the first half himself, before allowing the rest of his team to contribute to the scoreboard, in a 42 – 7 round one win over Pella Christian last Wednesday in the 2012 Class 1A Playoffs. The Eagles final record for the 2012 season was 6 – 4.
