The St. Albert, Council Bluffs Falcons scored two touchdowns on their first two possessions and ran themselves into the round of 16 of the Class 1A playoffs last night, beating the Pella Christian Eagles 42 – 7. Jacob Bendgen rushed for 168 yards on 15 carries, while Isaac Finn had 145 yards on just seven rushes. Falcons’ quarterback, Tucker Culjat, put the game away early, scoring three rushing touchdowns himself in the first half. The Eagles couldn’t seem to get anything going offensively, which forced their defense to stay on the field longer than they would have liked against a run heavy team. Derek Van Kooten led the way for the Eagles offensively, putting the only points on the board for the Eagles with a 53-yard touchdown scamper late in the second half. Another struggle for the Eagles was the battle for field position, and early on, the Falcons started several of their drives in Eagles territory. The loss ends Pella Christian’s football season for the 2012 campaign, dropping their record to 6 – 4.
