Little Dutch Make it Five Straight, Blank Oskaloosa

Pella kept their district title hopes alive with a 17-0 win over Oskaloosa last night. Off and on rain, along with frequent lightning, stretched the game out to nearly four hours due to two separate lengthy delays.

The opening possession of the game saw Oskaloosa drive 61 yards and eat 10:30 of the first quarter, only to miss a 27 yard field goal attempt. Pella then quickly drove down inside the Oskaloosa 10 yard line and just into the second quarter settled for a 26 yard field goal from Seth Johnson to take a 3-0 lead. Midway through the second quarter, Oskaloosa looked to have some momentum after pinning Pella deep in their own territory and forcing a punt, however a roughing the kicker penalty resulted in a Pella first down. The Dutch took full advantage of the gift adding another score when Josh DeWaard found Jacob Vollmar from 37 yards out to take a 10-0 lead.

After nearly an hour weather delay at halftime, the teams returned to the field for the second half, only to see another lengthy weather delay with three minutes remaining in the third quarter and Pella still holding a 10-0 lead. Eventually the game resumed and Pella put the game away on a 27 yard run late in the fourth quarter by Nathan Henry who finished with 113 yards rushing. Quarterback Josh DeWaard was perfect through the air completing all eight of his passes for 168 yards and a touchdown.

With their fifth straight win, Pella moves to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in Class 3A District 8 and will close the regular season at Winterset Friday.
