Little Dutch Take Advantage of Turnovers in Win

Pella High’s defense held a depleted Norwalk team to 116 yards of total offense and forced four fumbles last night, as the Little Dutch easily rolled over a once-undefeated Norwalk, 27 – 0. The Warriors were without two of their main offensive weapons that were the main reason Norwalk was 6 – 0 coming into last night’s match up. Highlighting the offense for Pella was Josh De Waard who passed for 82 yards, while the running game for Pella rushed for over 200 yards. Everything seemed to be clicking for the Little Dutch in all aspects of the game, including the special teams, where kicker Seth Johnson nailed two field goals of 33 and 36 yards respectively. Following a fumbled kickoff by the Warriors, Pella’s very first play from scrimmage was a halfback pass from Daniel Langenfeld, who found receiver Jake Vollmar down the field for a 22 yard touchdown strike. “What I said to Daniel on the sideline after we made the play and we scored was, ‘You gave our receiver a chance,’” Pella Head Coach, Jay McKinstrey said. “Jacob did a nice job making the play, because the safety coming over couldn’t see where the ball was, and it was kind of like a back shoulder throw. Jacob came back and made the play and was in the end zone, and it was just a great play by our guys.” The win puts Pella at 5 – 2 on the season, with a still perfect 4 – 0 record in Class 3A District 8 play. Next up for the Little Dutch is Senior Night next Friday, as Pella will be hosting Oskaloosa at home.
