Looks can certainly be deceiving, and if you took one glance at the Pella Christian volleyball team’s overall record on the year, 16 – 18, you’d shrug your shoulders and assume a disappointing season. This is not the case for head coach Cindy Nikkel’s 2012 girls she trained this year. Looking at their schedule, the Eagles played several Class 3A, 4A, and even 5A schools, ranging from Pella, Oskaloosa, and Knoxville, all the way up to the 5A schools of Johnston and Urbandale, and the thing about all of those games that made this 2012 squad so special to Coach Nikkel, was the fact that no matter the opponent, her girls wouldn’t quit. Though their season ended abruptly by a comeback win by Eddyville-Blakesburg in five sets in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A regional tournament, the girls have several quality wins and matches they can hang their hat on and build on for the 2013 season that will be here before you know it.
