When you have returning players at the start of the season, normally you can tell who is going to fill certain voids or holes that the departing seniors leave the team with. For Lady Dutch head basketball coach, Jerod Garland, it’s a different story this season.
“I think right now we have a team that nobody really has a defined role coming back,” Garland said. “That’s pretty rare for a team. Usually, you have a player coming back that maybe is known as a scorer, or a rebounder or a stopper. Right now, all of those roles are ptetty wide open.”
Garland also tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, that part of the fun of being a head coach is seeing who has the talent or leadership capabilities to step-up and be a spearhead on the offensive or defensive side of the ball. After two weeks of practice, the Pella High girls basketball team will tip-off their season this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at home against Ballard.
