Matt Woodcock must have been watching Liz Daniels play on the Central women’s side this past weekend. In sudden-death overtime on Wednesday night, he punched in the game-winner to help his Dutch team defeat Dubuque, 2 – 1. The first goals for each team occurred in the first half, on a Jordan Appenzeller penalty kick for the Dutch, and Dubuque answering with a header off a corner kick. The win improves Central’s record to 8 – 9 – 3, and also advances them to their first tournament championship after having appeared in 11 consecutive league tournaments. The Dutch will play Loras at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque this Saturday, with the winner getting an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. The Duhawks and Dutch played earlier this year, with the victory going Loras’ way, in a 2 – 0 shutout. The match is set to get underway at 7:30 p.m.
