Monday marked the first day that basketball practice could begin on the boys’ side of things in the state of Iowa. Pella High’s head basketball coach, Mark Core, told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the first few practices will be trying to weed out the best from the rest, but his coaching staff will also be looking for selfless play and smart shot taking.
“I told them at the start of practice [Monday] that I’m looking for defense and rebounding,” Core said. “I’m also looking on the offensive end for intelligence, decision-making and unselfishness. It’s a multitude of factors that we’re looking for. Obviously, we’re going to have to be athletic enough to make our full-court defensive game work. It’s a lot of things that we’re looking for, but I think the pieces are in the process of falling together.”
The Little Dutch play their first game of the season on November 30th at home against A-D-M, a game that will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS starting at 6:00 p.m.
