An annual Knoxville Thanksgiving tradition is back again this year. The 22nd annual Dettman Turkey Trot will be run at 9am on Thanksgiving morning. Knoxville Recreation Wellness Supervisor Trish Worrall says that the five kilometer race always brings a large crowd. It’s a prediction race where participants will guess the time that they’ll run before the race. The runner who is closest to their guess wins a 12-to-14 pound turkey.
Worrall says that they’ll run rain or shine – there’s a slight chance for rain Thursday, though temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s Thursday morning. Last year there were a record 160 runners. The route starts at the Rec Center and goes through parts of Marion County Park. For more information on the route, call the Rec Center at 828-0580.
