It was a close affair at times, but the Pella Christian Eagles’ boys basketball team opened their much anticipated 2012-13 season with a win over West Marshall last night by a final score of 68 – 53. Austin Ver Meer headed the attack by contributing a near triple-double, with 25 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Coltin Collins also added ten points for the Eagles, as the game was a bit of payback for Pella Christian, when West Marshall defeated them last year to open the season, 54 – 36. The game was 29 – 28 at half, when Pella Christian’s offense took over in the final 16 minutes. The Eagles did commit 19 turnovers to West Marshall’s 18, but out-rebounded the Trojans 38 – 28. The Pella Christian boys are 1 – 0 to start the year, and will next play at home against Washington on Saturday.
