The Knoxville School Board is considering a school-sponsored trap shooting team. Andy Shives, a parent in the district and a coach in a similar 4-H sponsored program called Bullets and Bows, presented information to the school board at this month’s meeting. Shives said that there’s a significant amount of grant money available to help fund the sport, which would take place in the spring. The reason they want the school sanction is to help transport kids as well as to allow high school students to letter. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says that many districts in the area have chosen to sponsor trap shooting, while some other have not. They’re investigating the pros and cons and will make a decision at a later meeting.
