Veterans Day Program Highlights Women

Women were in the spotlight during this year’s Veterans Day program at the Knoxville Senior Center. Three women spoke – each with different perspectives on their service. Staff Sergeant Shelia Weldon spoke about joining the Air Force in the early 70s and some of the struggles for equal treatment. Musician 3rd Class Christine Meyers talked about being one of the first women ever to join the Naval Academy band. Captain Jodi Marti discussed her recent deployment to Afghanistan. About 375 veterans and their spouses were served during the Hy-Vee veterans breakfast Monday morning.
