The new substation is being built at the site of the demolished cooling tower.

Construction is ongoing at the site of the Clark Street Substation in Pella. The new substation is located just east of the Pella Power Plant. The project is expected to be completed in December, at which point the city’s electrical load can be switched over from the Power Plant, and the process of deconstructing the Power Plant can begin. The city hopes to take advantage of high scrap metal prices to offset the cost of deconstructing the Power Plant. Following deconstruction the property is expected to be a green space for the city. Traffic cones are set up around the substation construction site, although both lanes of traffic are still open.
