Close games did not go the way of Pella Friday night, as future Little Hawkeye Conference member Dallas Center-Grimes swept both Pella High basketball teams. The Lady Dutch got out to a 15 – 3 lead in the first quarter, before the Fillies stormed back and took a one point lead into half. The game was back-and-forth in the final eight minutes, but DCG ultimately wound up on top, 56 – 52. Head coach, Jerod Garland, said this may be his team’s best performance to date. Allie DeMuelenaire led the way with 13 points for the Lady Dutch, while Mallory Lynch and Jessica Holterhaus contributed ten apiece. The Lady Dutch fall to 1 – 5 on the season with the loss. Over on the boys’ side, the Little Dutch had a goose egg on their side of the scoreboard for the first 5:30 of the game, and ended up falling 55 – 44 to the Mustangs. Pella never got closer than seven in the second half, as the Little Dutch tried to match the physicality of DCG, but could not come up with some big plays down the stretch to claw their way back into it. It’s the Pella boys’ first loss of the season, knocking their record down to 4 – 1, and both the Little and Lady Dutch will travel to Carlisle to play on Tuesday.
