The Pella High varsity basketball teams will stay at home tonight to play a fairly good pair of Grinnell squads. After a sweep of Carlisle on the road Tuesday, the Little and Lady Dutch are anxious to end 2012 on a high note. In the girls’ game, the Lady Dutch jumped out to another big lead and even got the running clock on Carlisle in a 67 – 30 win. The Tigers’ girls have dropped four straight after winning their first two games of the season. Grinnell has been plagued by poor shooting so far, making less than 30 percent of their field goals. The Pella boys are fresh off a last second scare from Carlisle and have a 5 – 1 record, and head coach, Mark Core, said that their post defense is going to face its biggest challenge of the season due to the height that Grinnell features this year.
“Grinnell presents a completely different challenge, in that they’ve got a couple of bigs,” Core said. “So our post defense will certainly be tested like it hasn’t been tested so far this year.”
Tonight’s doubleheader will be aired live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at kniakrls.com, as Jamie Brockman and Randy Sikkema will be there live calling the game. The Bruxvoort’s Decorating Center pregame show starts after Focus on the Family, and the girls will tip off at 6:15 p.m.
