Dealing with several inexperienced players this season, Pella High head girls’ basketball coach, Jerod Garland would like to see more physical play out of his team in the upcoming games. Garland told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that because his team is so young and didn’t have much varsity experience coming into the year, the ball-handling isn’t quite there yet, so they need to make up for it with aggressiveness to the ball, something they didn’t do against Ballard on Tuesday.
“Because we are a little inefficient in ball-handling and shooting sometimes, we have to out-scrap and outwork and be the aggressors and [Tuesday], [Ballard] was,” Garland said. “Whether it was crashing the offensive boards, or just pressuring us, they were the aggressors. For us to win games, we’re going to have to become the aggressors, so part of it was they were very aggressive, and part of it was our feet didn’t move as quick as we needed it to sometimes.”
The Lady Dutch are 1 – 3 on the season, and will be playing another ranked team Friday night when Oskaloosa comes to town, who are also coming off a loss to Pella Christian on Tuesday.
