The Knoxville City Council will take action on a case-by-case basis as the City moves forward on dilapidated homes. During a recent meeting, they discussed pros and cons of continuing to take control of those properties and tear them down. The recent wave of homes were torn down with grant money – now, the City would have to use their own money. The Council was concerned about using taxpayer money to settle issues that should be resolved by the property owner, but they also noted the negative impact dilapidated properties have on the community. City staff members put together a list of about 12 properties that may be considered for removal – the Council agreed to pursue the removal of one such home on Robinson Street and to continue their conversation on others at a later date.
