Though much of the nation is captivated by the fiscal cliff, another important bill is being held up in Congress. A new Farm Bill has not been approved, and that’s impacting families across Iowa.
Marion County FSA Director Angie Vos and NRCS Director Jeff Mathias say that much of their planning is being held up because they don’t know what a new Farm Bill may look like. They also receive much of their funding from the Farm Bill, so there are questions on how they should allocate resources.
Vos says that they’ll continue to work on internal projects, such as updating software, while they await news on what’s to come. If the Farm Bill is extended a year, they believe that they’ll be able to get up and running quickly.
