Local Option Sales Tax projects were the topic of discussion during last week’s special session of the Marion County Board of Supervisors. County Conservation Chair Steve Edwards, Engineer Roger Schletzbaum, and Maintenance Director Cal Stephens discussed different options for capital improvement projects using those funds. The fund will be at around $642,000 by the end of the fiscal year.

The board expressed a desire to keep a certain amount on-hand for emergencies – the rest could be used as leverage to try to secure grant funding, for helping maintain the courthouse, and to help maintain low-volume paved roads and unpaved roads in the county. The board approved a consensus of commitment of $50,000 to help with the lake dredging project at Marion County Park.
