Martensdale-St. Mary’s and Pleasantville split Friday night’s double header, with the Blue Devils taking the girls’ game 62-12 and the Trojans winning on the boys’ side, 86-69. The Pleasantville girls got off to a rough start, falling behind 11-0 in the first quarter before Kylie Stecker put up the first points for Pleasantville. Maddie Harkin led the team in scoring with 6 points. Trojans’ head girls coach, Aaron Fichter, said he wants to see more hustle out of his girls in the future. The Pleasantville girls are now 0 – 5 on the season. On the boys’ side, Pleasantville got off to a fast start going up 10-0 to start the game and never looked back. The Trojans would go up by as many as 13 in the second quarter before Martensdale-St. Mary’s quietly pulled within 4 points late in the third, but a 26 point effort in the final eight minutes sealed the win for Pleasantville. Senior Chris Peden had one of his best nights on the year leading the team in scoring with 23 points. Coach Tom Wilkins said that Peden is a leader on and off the court. The Pleasantville boys are now 4-0 on the year, and both the girls and boys will be in action on Tuesday, hitting the road to take on I-35.
