It has been a hot start for the Pella Christian Eagles’ basketball teams this season, and tonight they’ll be hosting Mahaska County rival Oskaloosa in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader showdown. The Eagles’ girls have defeated Albia and Roland Story so far, but tonight will be facing an also-undefeated Indians team who feature girls that have done their best work on the defensive side of the ball. In the three victories for Oskaloosa, they have allowed less than 31 points per game, and have only committed 24 fouls. Eagles’ head coach, Kevin Van Maanen, said that the Indians could throw some things at his young team that they may not have seen yet. For coach Larry Hessing and his Eagles’ boys, they just finished a trouncing of Washington on Saturday, 72 – 37, featuring three kids in double figures, one of them off the bench. In fact, the bench contributed 25 points to the winning effort. The Oskaloosa Boys are 1 – 1 on the year, losing to Chariton on Friday 50 – 42. Hessing said that when you have a rivalry game such as Pella Christian-Oskaloosa, records mean nothing. Tonight’s inter-conference matchup will be streamed live at kniakrls.com with Jamie Brockman and Wynne Veenstra providing the play-by-play. Pregame starts at 6:00 p.m. and tipoff of the girls’ game is at 6:15. There will also be a delayed broadcast of the game on 92.1 KRLS immediately following the Pella High doubleheader against Ballard.
