At around 8:40am gunshots were reported at 40 Brook Circle in Pella. An armed suspect, William Shaw of Fremont, Iowa fled, from the scene in his vehicle and was stopped near the Water Treatment Plant at University and West 5th Street. The suspect held a weapon on himself and threatened to harm himself to Pella Police Department. The standoff lasted around 20 minutes before the suspect shot himself. Central College went on lock down during the standoff. Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky says the suspect was alive when he was transported from the scene by the Pella Ambulance. Pella Regional Health Center reports that Shaw later died of his injuries. University St. between West 4th and Brook Circle is closed while law enforcement investigates the incident. The Pella Police Department , Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Pella Ambulance responded to the scene.  The Department of Criminal Investigation arrived on scene at 10:50am to take over the investigation.
