Stephen Michael Visser was sentenced to 15 years in prison this morning on burglary and assault charges. The 28-year-old Knoxville man broke into a Knoxville residence in September and threatened the occupants with a hammer. He also spit on officers as they arrested him. Marion County Attorney Ed Bull says that Visser has a lengthy criminal history. He’s hopeful Visser will make appropriate changes in his life to become a productive member of society over the next 15 years. Visser officially pled guilty to 2nd Degree Burglary and Assault on a Peace Officer. Bull adds that he hopes this sentence send the message to the community that crimes of violence will not be tolerated.
