After a flawless win-loss record to finish 2012, the Twin Cedars Sabers’ girls’ basketball team wants to continue their push towards the state tournament heading into the backend of their schedule. Head coach, Justin Nolte, wants to see his girls do a better job on the rebounding side of the ball and to play better defense in 2013. He says that defense is something he constantly teaches, but on the court, it’s the willpower of the player that determines whether they carry out the effort or not.
“I’ve always told the kids that a lot of the stuff I can show you, they can kind of regurgitate and do on their own,” Nolte said. “Once it comes game time, I guess I’ve always felt that defense and rebounding is something that just about anybody can do, it just depends on whether you want to do it or not.”
Nolte adds that all it takes is a little bit of heart and some drive to make sure your opponent doesn’t score. Moravia is next up for the Sabers’ basketball squads this Friday, which will wrap up an extended home stand for the Bussey kids.
