Central’s basketball teams could not capitalize on opportunities late in their games, as they each fell at the hands of Buena Vista on Saturday evening. The Beavers built a 12 points first half lead on the Dutch women who shot an icy 16.7 percent from the field in the opening twenty minutes. However, a 15 – 2 run by Central gave them a lead that they couldn’t build on in a 63 – 57 defeat. Alyssa Schwartz led all scorers with 16 points, while Bry Pierce led the team with eight boards. Central’s men were also faced with a big halftime deficit; down 48 – 30 at intermission. They were down by as many as 24 in the second half, but chipped it down to as close as three with 21 seconds left, but couldn’t get closer in an 85 – 80 loss. Branden Stubbs had a big night for the Dutch men with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, and Jacob Winkler contributed 19. Central’s women are 9 – 10 overall, the men are down to 9 – 9, and each squad falls to 2 – 6 in Iowa Conference competition. Next up for Central basketball is a rematch of the conference opener at home against Coe on Wednesday.
