Central Women Break Slide, Men Can’t Close Deal against Buena Vista

Nicole Strasko tallied double-double number five this season, as the Central women’s basketball team broke their recent slide to defeat Buena Vista, 74 – 61 on Monday. Strasko had 12 points and 15 rebounds on the evening, as the Dutch as a team shot better than 47 percent from the field for the game. Rachel Evans also had 12 points, while Alyssa Henrich had ten big points off the bench. Buena Vista’s and Central’s men kept trading leads back and forth in the first half, but the Beavers pulled away with an 84 – 80 victory. Buena Vista had an 11 point lead in the second half at one point, but the Dutch stormed back with an 11-0 run to take a lead late but couldn’t hang on. Four starters were in double figures for Central, with Jacob Winkler and Matt Greenfield each throwing in 18 points apiece. The Dutch women are now 9 – 8 the season while the men drop to 9 – 7, and each team is 2 – 4 in the Iowa Conference. Central doesn’t have much time to rest, as they’ll head to Simpson to play the Storm tomorrow evening.
