Basketballs weren’t finding the bottom of the net for the Central basketball teams on Saturday, losing to Coe in both the men’s and women’s contests. The Dutch women were ice cold from the field in the first half, shooting just over 20 percent from the field, but were able to keep the deficit down to nine at half. Central would open up the second half on a 12 – 1 run, as it was the Kohawks that were having problems draining shots. Coe would take the 12th and final lead change of the game late, and sank some key free throws to put it away to open up their conference schedule with a win, 46 – 39. Central went 0-for-18 from downtown for the game. On the men’s side, it was basically the opposite story with the same result, as it was the Dutch men who came out shooting the ball with great accuracy and pulling out to an eight-point lead entering the second half of play. The Kohawk men clawed their way back into it, taking a lead late and not looking back in a 56 – 46 triumph. Both Coe squads are 1 – 0 in the Iowa Conference, while the Dutch are each 0 – 1. Central basketball is next in action on Wednesday at Wartburg.
