In their first dual meet of 2013, an Iowa Conference dual, mind you, the then No. 15 ranked Central wrestling squad dropped a tough contest to unranked Loras 27 – 14. Not only did the loss break a string of six straight dual meet victories, but it also dropped the Dutch out of the top 25 in the most recent Division III poll. Central is currently ranked 29th, which is where they started the season. Head coach and interim Athletic Director, Eric Van Kley, said that despite their recent shortcomings, his team is still keeping a positive attitude and are even more focused than ever before.
“I think they’re even more resilient,” Van Kley said. “I was pretty confident when I went to bed that night that after a tough loss, we would be better for it. You never want to go through that, but at the same time, you need to go through those over the course of the year to get your team and individuals a little more hard.”
Central will get to work tomorrow as they’ll be facing four different schools for the Max Servies Duals in Indiana. They’ll first face Wabash, Indiana at 9:00 a.m.
