Things were slow going for Pella Christian’s varsity basketball squads in 2013, but they’ve gotten back to early season form as of late, sweeping their last two opponents. The Eagles’ girls narrowly escaped Knoxville on Friday and beat rival Des Moines Christian 55 – 47 the very next night. Pella Christian is 4 – 1 in the conference, and will be facing a Tigers team that just won a bounce-back game on Saturday after losing a fourth quarter lead to Pella. Grinnell’s girls are 4 – 7 on the season and have shown their strengths on the boards; grabbing better than 30 per game. Meanwhile, the Eagles’ boys are 8 – 4, and are trying to match their longest win streak of the season at three. The Eagles are in the middle of a busy part of their schedule, and coach Larry Hessing said that the only thing you can do when you play so many games in a certain time period is to keep things loose and not to carry things on in practice too long. Tonight’s doubleheader match-up will be aired live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at kniakrls.com, with Cory Houser calling the game, starting immediately after Focus on the Family concludes at around 6:00 p.m., and the girls’ game tips off shortly after.
