Sitting with a record of 6 – 1 through seven games in their 2012-13 season, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team has had several collective efforts that have propelled them to where they are this point in the season. One game that has really stood out to the players is their win over a ranked Oskaloosa squad. Senior post player, Cori Uitermarkt says that perhaps the Indians’ oversight of their Eagles’ team was what cost them.
“[Oskaloosa] had really high hopes for the season and they really didn’t think that it’d be that tough to beat us,” Uitermarkt said. “We wanted to come out and show good we were.”
Another senior, Jora Vander Hart, says that it was her team’s willpower and the adrenaline rush of playing in the first “big” game of the season that helped tip the scales in their favor.
“We really just wanted to prove ourselves,” Vander Hart said. “That was our first big game, and [Oskaloosa], it’s a big conference game that we really wanted to win. I just think that we went out there and played really hard.”
The Eagles’ ladies are gearing for a rival match against the Lady Dutch of Pella that takes place tomorrow night.
