Primarily dominated by height at roughly every position, the Pella Christian Eagles’ boys’ basketball team has been looking to its playmakers to step-up and work the perimeter in their games this season. Playing Pella on Tuesday night, the Little Dutch held top-scorer Austin Ver Meer to just four first half points, and that’s when guards Blake Riggen and Riley Stursma stepped up to lead the team to victory. Coach Larry Hessing said that despite the obvious height advantage his team sports in just about every contest, his Eagles still need that balanced threat from the outside to make them even more dangerous. With only a small handful of games left, Pella Christian does know they’ll need to find that balance quickly. The Class 2A regional brackets have been released, and the 13 – 4 Eagles earned a first round bye and will play either Davis County or Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont at home in the regional semifinals on February 14. First things first, they’ll stay at home to face Norwalk this Friday.
