The Iowa legislative session begins in less than two weeks, and Marion County has a few new legislators heading to Des Moines for the first time.
Greg Heartsill is one of those. He tells KNIA/KRLS News that it’s been very exciting to get settled in and learn how things operate. Heartsill says that he’s optimistic about a deal getting done on property tax reform in the state. Though this year’s group of legislators have the same general makeup as last year, Heartsill says that compromise may be more likely since both sides of the aisle have made reform a priority and have a vested interest in making something happen.
Republican Guy Vander Linden in House District 79 says his focus will be on property tax reform during this legislative session. He says last session property tax reform didn’t make it through, but he hopes that there will be bipartisan efforts this year to work on the issue. He thinks this session will be a busy one, especially at the beginning of the session as bills work their way through committees.
