The Knoxville City Council approved a request to allow an 18-year-old in a bar during last week’s regular meeting, but under a very specific circumstance. Sandal’s Lounge owner Randy Naaktgeboren said that a local band that plays regularly at Sandal’s had just added an 18-year-old as a member. He asked for an exemption of a code that states you must be 21 to enter a bar for three nights only – the three nights the band was scheduled to play. The Council thanked Naaktgeboren for bringing the issue to the Council rather than ignoring the code. Though they were concerned about the kind of precedent it might present, the Council did approve the request unanimously, saying it was very specific and was the correct way to go about the issue.
