The Knoxville Basketball Squads were dominated by Newton last night. The girls fell 56-34 as the Cardinals opened the game up by closing out the second half on an 8-0 run to go up 25-11 at the half. Newton then took firm control in the third quarter by starting off on a seven/two run to go up by 21 early on in the third. Panthers Coach Jim Uitmarkt said the offensive flow just was not there last night. Emily Wallace led the Panthers with eight points as Knoxville falls to 6-9 on the season and 2-6 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The boys game was also a night to forget for the Panthers. Coach Jeff Larson went with the approach of not getting his team on the floor for warm-ups until the very last minute. He said he is trying anything and everything to change the fortunes of the team. However…Newton raced out to a 16-0 lead to start the game and coasted to a 65-29 win. Joe Stearns led the Panthers with eight points on the night. Knoxville falls to 0-15 on the season and 0-8 in the conference. Both Knoxville teams will travel to Norwalk on Tuesday.
