Turnovers and not getting into an offensive rhythm doomed the Knoxville girls basketball squad last night in Grinnell as the Panthers fell to the Tigers 56-44. The Tigers broke the game open on a 10-1 run in the second quarter and followed that with an 11-5 burst in the third quarter to put the game away. Assistant Coach Jason Carter said Grinnell was able to control the ball and Knoxville was not. Meredith Cunningham led Knoxville with 15 points as the Panthers fall to 5-7 on the season and 2-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. On the boys side, Grinnell jumped on top of Knoxville early and never let up in a 74-29 win. The Tigers kept the pressure on Knoxville until the score margin reached 35 points and the running-click rule was enforced. Ryan Douglass led Knoxville with 12 points, all in the first half. Knoxville falls to 0-12 on the season and 0-6 in the conference. Both boys and girls teams host Chariton tonight. You can hear the play-by-play on AM 1320 KNIA tonight at six.
