It was a successful night on the mats for Knoxville last night as they defeated both Pella and North Polk in a triangular that was streamed live on kniakrls.com. In the first dual, Knoxville beat Pella 60-21 despite Pella winning four of the seven contested matches. Forty-two of Knoxville’s 60 points came courtesy of seven open weights for Pella. Winners for Pella included Jake Speltz, Dillon DeJong, Levi Azinger and Chase Petty while Knoxville got wins from James Stittsworth, Tyler Chatterton and Jac Agan. Pella then won five of the eight contested matches in their dual with North Polk but once again due to open weights fell 49-28. Jake Speltz recorded his second pin of the night while other winners included Logan Van Brogan, Levi Azinger, Chase Petty and Caleb LaFollette. Knoxville ended the night with a commanding 56-18 win over North Polk recording five pins and one technical fall. Tyler Chatterton, Aaron Crossett, Colton Spaur, Skyler Schlotterback, Colton Havens, Skylar Cunningham, Nolan Crossett, Kieran Robuck and Dominick Clarke were all victorious for the Panthers. Pella coach Joe Burch said with so many open weights their focus has been more on individual improvements and he was happy with what he saw.
Knoxville coach Ron Peterson said he was pretty disappointed with their effort against Pella but was happy to see their intensity against North Polk.
Both Pella and Knoxville will travel to Centerville Saturday.
