Starting the season with some ice cold shooting, in their last two games versus Dallas Center-Grimes and Carlisle, the Pella High girls’ basketball team has been able to find the bottom of the net with some of their shots. Coach Jerod Garland tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that earlier in the year, his girls were taking high percentage shots, but they just weren’t falling. Garland also says that looks are deceiving on the court and on the stats page when it comes to how well his team shoots the ball.
“Part of it is, we’re making those closer-range shots, and part of it is we are a better shooting team than we have shown in some games,” Garland said. “I think we were 10-for-50 against Ballard and then 14-for-50 the next game. We’re a better shooting team than that. (Against Carlisle) it was fun to see those three’s; Morgan Ernst comes in and hits three 3’s and that’s her big weapon for us is hitting that outside shot. It’s fun to see her step up, but really, I think we took pretty good shots, too.”
The Lady Dutch went 28-for-50 from the field against their last opponent, Carlisle, and Garland says his girls will need an equally strong effort to beat a good Pella Christian team this Friday.
