The Pella High girls’ basketball team had plenty of fight in them, but it wasn’t enough to topple PCM, as the Mustangs came away with 56 – 43 win on Saturday. Pella had a lead at the half, and each team had problems finding the bottom of the cylinder in the third quarter with a total of eight points scored between the two teams. Thanks to big buckets down the stretch by Courtney VanHouweling and Kelsey Townsend, PCM was able to notch their fifth straight win. VanHouweling finished with a near triple-double, with 18 points, ten rebounds and six steals. Townsend also finished the game with 13 points. Allie DeMuelenaere was tops for Pella with nine, Mackenzie Gustafson added eight, while Shannon Ewing had her best night this season with seven. The Lady Dutch drop to 5 – 9 on the season while the Mustangs are now 10 – 6; Pella will return to action at Washington on Tuesday, while PCM heads home to play Colfax-Mingo.
