The Pella High boys’ basketball team will be looking to turn things around after a tough weekend of games, and tonight they’ll be hosting in-county rival Knoxville. The Panthers are still searching for their first win of the season, and Coach Jeff Larson knows his team is in for a physical battle, telling KNIA/KRLS Sports that Pella has always been a strong defensive team. On the Little Dutch side of things, Mark Core’s gang was 5 – 1 to start the year, but lost to both Pella Christian and PCM on Friday and Saturday, respectively. This is the first of three games in a five-day span for the 5 – 3 Pella boys. Coach Core had been looking for his guys to have better shot selection entering 2013, and tonight, he wants to focus on the good things that came out of Saturday’s loss to the Mustangs.
“I’d like to build on some of the positives,” Core said. “I thought our defensive effort was better. I thought our ball movement and shot selection were better than [Friday] night [against Pella Christian]. We have some improve there. I think the main thing is that our team has to stay together, stay focused and just try to get better.”
Again, you can catch both games on our AM/FM stations this evening. Derek Cardwell has the call for the Panthers on AM 1320 KNIA, while Jamie Brockman heads the Little Dutch action on 92.1 KRLS. Both games will also be streamed live at kniakrls.com.
