Chalk up another upset victory for the Lady Dutch, as Pella was able to sweep Washington on the road last night. The Demons’ ladies came into the game with a No. 14 ranking in Class 4A and a gigantic bulls-eye on their back. Six points was the lead at halftime for Pella, who closed the door late in the game for a 50 – 40 victory. Four starters had good offensive games, led by Sheldon Rozenburg who had 13 points. Coach Jerod Garland said that Rozenburg’s shooting sometimes goes under the radar, which makes her a dangerous player. The Little Dutch received a big momentum boost from Jordan Pingel’s last second, half-court three pointer to give Pella the lead for good and the sweep, 60 – 43. The big game changer was the third quarter, where the Little Dutch outscored Washington 19 – 6 and had a 22-point lead as late as the fourth quarter. Pingel finished with 13 to lead all scorers, while Noah Clayberg added 12, including a couple clutch perimeter shots to end any sort of run that the Demons tried to go on. The Pella boys are now 10 – 4 on the season, while the girls improved to 6 – 9, and the Dutch will wrap up their four game road swing this Friday with a conference doubleheader against Grinnell.
