A big first half keyed Melcher-Dallas’ boys’ basketball team to victory, while the girls were solid but fell to Southeast Warren on Saturday. Ross Dawson and Kenneth Waddle each hit a pair of three’s and turned in a 23 and 18 point effort, respectively. Coach Jim Wells told KNIA/KRLS Sports that his team had a great defensive first half; getting off to a 34 – 18 start before rolling 61 – 45. The Saints’ girls fell behind 10 – 0 in the first quarter, but couldn’t quite recover in a 49 – 38 loss. Head coach, Jon Suntken said that his girls played a good game and had good offensive execution, but it was foul trouble late that did them in. Maddie Rowland is starting to come into her own, having a breakout game with 15 points. Melcher-Dallas’ boys are 7 – 8 now and the girls drop to 5 – 12, each team is back in action this evening at home against Moravia.
