A special deer hunting season is taking place at Elk Rock State Park this weekend. DNR Conservation Officer Ken Kenyon tells KNIA/KRLS News that a muzzleloader hunting season will be taking place this Saturday and Sunday. Kenyon explains that the goal of the season is to reduce the deer herd level in the area by about fifty deer. If it’s not controlled, he says they can cause depredation on the crops around the park, causing farmers frustration. Kenyon adds that car versus deer collisions have also decreased since they started the special hunt several years ago. All applications for the hunts have been filled.
