The Twin Cedars’ basketball teams had a strong night of basketball on Saturday at Ankeny Christian. Trailing 12 – 0 about two-thirds of the way through the first period, the Sabers’ girls went on a 16 – 1 run in the final 2:30 of the opening frame, and used that momentum to carry them to a 64 – 49 victory. Alee Hugen had another strong night, with 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Payton Fee had 14 points, including back-to-back-to-back three’s at one point. Brittany Roby almost had a double-double herself with 11 points and nine assists. The Sabers’ boys played a ranked Ankeny Christian and pushed them to the brink, but fell just short in a 60 – 59 loss. It was a good bounce back for Twin Cedars, as they were trailing by 14 at the end of three periods. Derek Springer put in a double-double with 24 points and ten rebounds, while Otis Roby bucketed ten. Twin Cedars’ girls rise to 16 – 2 while the boys drop to 9 – 8, and each team has three games left on their schedule, and will first play Tri-County at home tonight.
