Pet adoptions tend to decrease during the winter months. Marion County Humane Society Director Kris Smith says that much of that has to do with people going on vacations, especially in times right around the holidays. She tells KNIA/KRLS that many times, the shelters will also see an increase in the number of pets that they have during winter. Some people use their vacation as an opportunity to bring in unwanted pets and owner-release them.
