Knoxville hosts a triangular wrestling meet tonight, welcoming North Polk and Pella into their gym. North Polk is 3 – 5 in dual meets this season, Pella is 1 – 7 and Knoxville is 10 – 4. Pella has been hampered by open weights this season due to lack of numbers trying out for the team. North Polk also has the same problem, but not as severe as the Little Dutch; being open at 120 and 126. Comets’ head coach, Kirk Hesse told KNIA/KRLS Sports that his team is also very young; featuring nine or ten freshmen wrestling in each meet so far this year. Panthers’ head wrestling coach, Ron Peterson talks about the competition his grapplers can expect out of the Little Dutch and Comets.
“Pella has some very competitive kids,” Peterson said. “The [Levi] Azinger kid at 120 won that tournament on Saturday. He’s an outstanding wrestler; his dad was a college coach. They’ve got some other kids who can compete. North Polk has traditionally had four or five tough kids in their line-up and they’ve got some kids who are going to challenge some of our kids.”
Tonight’s meet will be streamed live at kniakrls.com, with Jamie Brockman and Nick Haynes calling the action. Coverage starts at 5:15 p.m. and first match is at 5:30.
