The City of Knoxville spent more than $11,500 in expenses related to last week’s snow storm. City Manager Harold Stewart provided a cost analysis sheet to KNIA/KRLS News relating to the snow event. City crews were out Wednesday through Friday cleaning streets before returning Monday morning. Staff wages included 167 regular hours and 18 overtime hours, costing more than $3800. Supplies included 69 tons of salt and 9 tons of sand, costing more than $5000. Fuel costs were estimated at around $2600.
Assistant City Manager Dylan Feik says during a snow event, they have predetermined routes they clear first to give residents access to work, the hospital, schools, and businesses. He explains that as they start city streets, it’s more difficult to remove snow due to the angles and corners of city streets. Feik adds the City is always appreciative of residents who remove their vehicles from the streets during snow events and encourages anyone who has more questions about the process to contact City Hall
