Pella Christian’s boys’ basketball team did what it needed to do to get to state Saturday night, defeating the Notre Dame, Burlington Nikes 66 – 49. The Eagles couldn’t shake Notre Dame early; trailing after one period and not able to extend a seven-point lead despite several chances to do so. A buzzer-beating 25-footer from “Mr. Freeze,” Sebastian Baugh, gave his team a seven-point lead, and most importantly, a big momentum swing heading into the final eight minutes of the contest. Baugh would finish with 17 points, Austin Ver Meer had 14 points and nine rebuonds, and Blake Riggen scored 11 for the now 20 – 4 Pella Christian Eagles’ boys. The Eagles earned a six seed in the Class 2A state tournament and will face third-seeded Sheldon (22 – 3) on Tuesday, March 5 at 12:15 p.m.
